‘GRAMIKA’ is an abbreviation of “GRAssroots Management Institute for Knowledge and Action.” It was founded by A.N.Pandey after acquiring experience of working in social sector for more than two decades. He had opportunities of learning social reformative activities in the close guidance of Lok Nayak Jaya Prakash Narayan or JP, as people call him, during the years 1969 to 1978. He worked in Gram Nirman Mandal, a society for rural development, founded by JP, till 1988, except his deputation with OXFAM as Field Officer in Eastern India Office, Ranchi for a period of three years and in a Ford Foundation and OXFAM-America jointly funded women empowerment project for three years.Purpose behind establishing GRAMIKA India was to put entire experience and knowledge into practice in a concentrated area by it’s founder.GRAMIKA India is a non-profit organization registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 in 1994 in undivided Bihar and subsequently in 2007 in Jharkhand.
An established society based on non-exploitative, self-reliant social order, devoid of inequalities, regardless of caste, creed, religion and sex and characterized by the dignity of individuals with primacy of truth and non- violence for its perpetuation.
Our missions are organizing people at grass root for their Self development, establishing strong linkages with the officials and the resource agencies, Identification of needs of the people and develop a process of people’s empowerment as the owner of the creation and promotion of self help activities by organizing rural poor women.

Founder of Gramika India. Mr. Awadh Nandan Pandey has also worked as a grass root social worker at Gram Nirman Mandal, Sarvodaya Ashram between the year 1969-1988. He also has experience as a Project Officer for Badlao Foundation from the year 1988-1995. His experience and wisdom in the field of social work for more than 5 decades has led him to become the founder of Gramika India a foundation that he formed to make a difference in the lives of the underprivileged by helping them build independent and sustainable lives .
